If you are like me and somebody important in your life is not quite a morning person you may be able to brighten their day and start things off on a better foot with an enthusiastic “good morning!” It will also make you feel better to give a genuine morning greeting to your loved ones.
Simple greetings like “hello” are universally understood, and one of the first things that most people learned in the beginner’s Spanish class. But, you can make your speech more interesting by learning some creative ways to wish somebody good morning in Spanish.
- ¿Qué tal va tu mañana? (How is your morning going? casual)
- ¿Qué tal va su mañana? (How is your morning going? formal)
- Buen día caballeros (Good day gentlemen)
- Did you sleep well? (¿Durmió bien?)
These are all great ways to give someone a positive morning greeting to start their day.
Spanish beginners may mistakenly think that ‘buena mañana’ is the correct way to say good morning, but that is a little too literal of a translation. You would never hear a native Spanish speaker say this. Actually, the most common phrase would probably be “buenos días”, which literally translates to ‘good days’ (and yes, days is plural). You can say this almost any time of day until the evening.
